Inner Space

Where
is your
holy space?
Altars in church?
Sands by the ocean?
Summit on the mountain?
Look no further than within.
Meditate in your own stillness.
For where you are, God is there also,
making beneath your feet a holy space.
Holy spaces are not in just one place.
They are anywhere and everywhere,
at the same and different times,
in places of beauty and
the most desolate spots.
For the love of God
is within us
creating
holy
space.

Living Lent

What
makes a
Holy Lent?
Contemplation?
Prayer, atoning
for acts done and undone?
Fasting from hasty judgements?
Perhaps we will find the answer
by living the questions, wandering
in the wilderness, with a contrite heart.

Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer. –Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Wander in the Wilderness

Lent
beckons.
Walk into
the wilderness.
Challenge heart and mind
to see through spirit eyes.
Do not lead, follow the Way,
wandering unknown heights and depths.
Go inward when the darkness descends.
Trust that Divine light will guide the way home.

Advent 4: Love

Seek and Ye Shall Find

Love
surrounds
the Christ child.
Shepherds draw near.
Angels adore him.
Wisemen arrive with gifts.
His birth is a miracle.
We watch thousands of years later
for angels. Lo, Christ is among us.
Seek where love is, for there ye shall find him.

Advent 3: Joy

Keeping Watch

With care and trepidation, the shepherds
are watching their flocks under the stars,
when an angel proclaims to them
there will be a holy birth.
Imagine you are there
when the baby comes.
Fear becomes awe.
Your heart fills
with great
joy.

Joy
is found
in waiting.
Observing those
standing in our midst
for signs of His coming.
Tending the fires of our faith.
Being the shepherds to lost souls.
Staying alert to hear the angels
proclaim the advent of Christ among us.

Advent 2: Peace

Dona Nobis Pacem

In peace
we watch and wait
for the baby Jesus
born under the Bethlehem star.
In complete silence, the world holds it breath.
Behold there are tidings of joy
for Christ will come again.
We watch and wait
for peace.

Advent 1: Hope

A Light in the Darkness

Hope
finds me
in darkness,
shining its light,
illuminating
pathways through challenges
I face along my journey.
Hark! There’s mystery in the air!
Angels proclaim Christ will come again.
With anticipation, I wait and watch.

Resilience by Faith

Seek
balance.
It takes strength
to sway and find
the center again.
Formed by God’s gentle hands,
our hearts and minds are opened
to life in its fullest moments,
bound together by love and not hate.
Shaped by our faith, we can bend and not break.

Stirring the Pot

As
I walk
with Jesus
this holy week,
there is brokenness
around me on all sides.
The world seems out of balance.
I feel at loss for what to do.
Stir in me the compassion to bind
the wounds of those who cannot feel your love.

Let There Be Light

Light
shines through
the cracks of
my brokenness,
illuminating
my soul, my life, my all.
My spirit is renewed by
love so amazing, so divine.
Though the journey is fraught with danger
I fear not, for my times are in God’s hands.
