Windows To The Spirit

Thick,
dense fog.
A blanket
obfuscating
visibility.
Trusting fleeting glimpses
of pavement as headlight beams
bounce off this low nocturnal cloud.
Breathing sighs of relief once safely
tucked into the clear comfort of bright lights.

Signs.
Subtle
messages sent
as guides along
the journey of life.
I followed a trailer
named “Harmony” down the road.
Peaceful consonance replaced
anxiety as cars sped by me,
revealing harmony instills patience.

Grief
crawls out
from under
the rocks of life.

Faded memories.
Unrequited lovers.

Longings for younger days and
fears of longer nights spent alone.

Inevitable changes crashing
onto what little familiar remains.

Let
God love
you fully.

Bathe you in a
column of warm light
that enters the head and
moves to the soles of the feet
creating a lustrous essence
transfiguring mere humanity
into a vision of pure holiness.

This poem was inspired by a mediation on the following scripture:

Isaiah 60: 1-2

¹ Arise, shine; for your light has come,
    and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
² For darkness shall cover the earth,
    and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
    and his glory will appear over you.

How
does it
feel to be
in a thin place?
Sense of well being
so complete and in full
sync with nature that even
the buzzing of the bees and the
fluttering of butterfly wings drown out
sounds of all doubt that God is in this place.

Take
time to
sit with God
listening for
messages that break
through the stillness and seep
into the innermost soul
inviting a conversation
with the most Holy rich in content
inspiring enlightenment from within.

Shine
your star
in the world.

Give unique gifts
receiving goodness.

Be diligent in prayer
for God’s messengers may be
an unexpected mystery.

Turn to the light and away from fear.
Following a different path, change your heart.

Clothe yourself in love,  joy, and contentment.

Practice patience and humility.
Be kind and full of compassion.
Believe in full abundance.

Accept limitations.
Forgive everyone.
Forgive yourself.

Meditate.
Relax.
Breathe.

There are certain things that I cannot change.
Worrying is useless and harmful.
To dwell on such things distracts me,
prevents me from letting go,
and keeps me from seeing
how God carries me
and longs for me
to become
content.
