The Sands of Time

Years
slip through
my fingers
like the white sand
of an hour glass.
As a decade closes,
I dig in my heels hoping to
slow the momentum of time’s race.
With the wind behind me pushing me
forward, I lean backward onto the past.

There’s No Place Like Home

Home,
sweet home.
Time away…
is respite from
day to day routines.
It restores, refreshes,
relaxes, but…re-entry
afterward can be quite bumpy.
Vacation? Totally worth it yet…
once the car’s unpacked, there’s no place like home.

The Calm Before the Storm

No
swarming
crowds on the
wide boardwalk and
queues nonexistent
at favorite night spots.
The calm, lazy pace relaxed
but ephemeral… as workers
scramble to prepare for the teeming
onslaught of seasonal sun seekers.

Steady Wins the Race

Waiting
takes energy
not unlike running a
race.  The adrenaline pulses
to the heart at the start, a rapid pace
that soon plateaus to a steady
crawl…and thus begins the
hardest part of
waiting.

Rehoboth

The
sights and
sounds of the
seaside town are
immutable, stored
in a sanctuary
of special memories.  This
place hums its own rhythm, rocking
to the beat of the waves on the shore…
banishing stress with each breath of salt air.

Erin

I do…
these words exchanged
on a chilly May day
at the beach, sand resonating
with lovely childhood memories…so much
a part of the young woman she
has become.  A new life
starts when she says
I do.

Alternate Merge

Caution!
the road signs read.
A watch word ignored by
the cars speeding past on both sides.
Where are they going in such a hurry?
Getting there becomes a battle.
Perhaps with acceptance
comes less need for
caution.

A Delicate Balance

Knowing
how difficult
it is to accept change
she moves delicately through life
making choices that rarely rock the boat.
Honing perfection with practice,
she draws her power from
the strength of her
knowing.

Overdone

Shadows
under her eyes
belie the persistent
energy she seems to possess.
Her need for solitude interrupted
by her own inability
to disengage and step
back into the
shadows.

Good Vibes

Good news.
It has its way
of lifting the spirits
and making all other things seem
better even if nothing has improved.
The positive vibes emanate
like the rays of the sun
proclaiming the
good news.
