Metamorphosis

Changes
are outward. Though
hard, we move quickly on.
Transitions are inward, causing
a continuous series of births and
deaths of our inner selves in search
of life’s deeper meaning…
sometimes nothing
changes.

Quicksand

Slow.
Heavy.
Relentless.
Routine, mundane
tasks are like quicksand.
Often overlooked, they
gradually swallow us
until we are up to our neck
in deadlines and flimsy excuses.
Avoid the pit and deal with tasks head on.

**************************************
I was listening to an audio book and the author used quicksand as a metaphor.  It brought back memories of old movies with people being swallowed by a pit of quicksand.  According to Wikipedia, “people falling into (and, unrealistically, being submerged in) quicksand or a similar substance is a trope of adventure fiction, notably in movies. According to Slate, this gimmick had its heyday in the 1960s, when almost 3% of all films showed someone sinking in mud, sand, or clay, but it has since fallen out of use. The proliferation of quicksand scenes in movies has given rise to an internet subculture scene dedicated to the topic.”

Mr. Incredible

As
faith or
provenance
would play its hand,
the love of my life
was born into this world,
our paths converging early.
Over the years, we have shared joy,
countless blessings, deep pain and sorrow.
Ahead lies an incredible future.

Happy Birthday, Love of My Life!

Luminaries

Light.
Like moths
to a flame,
we are drawn to
illumination.
In the brightness of day,
we bask in the divine love
we see in the eyes of others.
Even in darkness, the moon and stars
shine God’s holy light upon the whole world.

The Phases of Being

Body.
Life’s first chapter.
Growth surging from desires.
A corporeal expression
of who

we are.
Our minds expand.
Learning leads to knowledge
culminating in who and what
we will

become.
At last, spirit.
Discernment of deeper
purpose leading us to seek the
Divine.

Writer’s Block

Verses.
Thin and brittle.
Forced into confining
constructions once inspiring
succulent wisdom in digestible
bites. Adding fresh ingredients
with just a dash more time
yields bountiful
verses.

Honor Thy Father

Fathers
are not perfect.
They possess shortcomings
that challenge them every day
as providers, husbands, parents, and sons.
A child’s unconditional love
gives them strength to become
even better
fathers.

Dark Victory

Sometimes
forces beyond
our control intervene to
bring us up short, reminding us
that there is evil at work in the world.
Discouragement creeps up on us.
Wickedness cannot win,
yet it will try
sometimes.

I Can See Clearly Now

I
yearn for
clarity.
Dissipation
of  clouds looming and
shadows ominously
casting doubt across my path.
There may one day be a point when
I see through obstacles before me.
Until then, I let my faith guide my steps.

Holy Ground

We
walk on
holy ground,
a spot circled
by God on the map
of our journey of faith.
Truly God is in this place.
The key to grace is in the heart.
It is not the law that leads us there.
Behold, the light of Christ is within you.
