Windows To The Spirit

Just
one word
is enough
to signify
extreme emotion.
Love. Respect. Gratitude.
Envy. Guilt. Pride. Lust. Hate. Pain.
Humility. Sacrifice. Faith.
Justice. Peace. Mercy. Hope. Forgiveness.
Just one word, the greatest of which is Love.

Dust
has no
boundaries!
It envelops
every clean surface
with its pernicious cloak
and has the audacity
to come again uninvited.
It exempts none for age or status
and remains long after the door is closed.

Anger and resentment are destructive,
toxic emotions, poisoning us.
Unable to let go of rage
we wear pain like a mantle.
Our hearts become hardened.
What is done is done.
Forgive yourself.
Pray for those
who hurt
you.

Life
unfolds
its events
gradually,
revealing itself
like phases of the moon,
only when the time is right.
One can anticipate what will
come next yet, there is no certainty
until future’s mystery is unfurled.

A
mother’s
happiness
soars when she knows
her children have found
and enjoy the passions
that will carry them through life.
But there is a kind of sadness
that lingers, remembering the time
it was her loving arms that carried them.

A
friendly
smile returned,
a kind gesture.
Do unto others.
Kindness begets kindness.
Your efforts may or may not
be reciprocated, but wait,
for love knows love and will soon respond.
For it is in giving that we receive.

Dreams
reveal
in our sleep
anxieties
hidden in our minds.
But dreams are also those
exciting and wonderful
thoughts that make our hearts beat faster
leading us to reach beyond ourselves.
Do not let fear win.  Listen to the heart.

I start with shallots, Arborio rice,
and garlic, sautéed in olive oil;
add just a splash of crisp white wine,
mushrooms, mascarpone cheese,
broth, butter, parmesan,
a hint of pepper,
a dash of salt.
Risotto.
Perfect.
Yum.
