We
walk as
pilgrims on
our life journey,
pushed and pulled along
by forces beyond our ken.
The why and where we travel
unraveling and reforming
as we follow God with steadfast hearts.
The source is the way, the truth, and the life.
Light
begins
to reach through
the cracks, knitting
the space together
with the strength of mere air.
God is in that emptiness
within me, the hand cradling
my brokenness with gentle mercy
and reshaping my heart to accept change.
We
begin
as empty
vessels waiting
for God to fill us.
Overflowing with the
wine of life-giving spirit,
refilling our cups as we use
our gifts and replenish them anew,
we prepare ourselves to return to God.

I wrote this 100th post during a quiet Lenten retreat at Belmont, the lovely home and studio of Gari Melchers, where we looked at images of God in art and photography to better understand our own image of God and to look inside ourselves. It was wonderful time for insight and reflection.
To
give up
something should
be difficult.
Denial requires
an intentional act.
To be humbled by desire
brings awareness of deep longings
that exemplify human weakness.
Spiritual exercise is hard work.
It
is hard
to look back
and not feel some
sadness for lost dreams.
But there is no regret
in sharing the twists and turns
of living for the ones I love.
There is not a minute I would change
for my destiny is the life I have.
The
Lord is
merciful.
Even though I walk
on paths in darkness
the Lord lights my way and
comforts me when I am scared.
The demons that dwell inside my
soul are vanquished when I put my trust
in the God of peace and understanding.
The
light of
the full moon
and the warmth of
the sun have endured
for all generations.
We gaze the shining stars seen
by kings and shepherds long ago.
God stretches rainbows around the earth.
Hark the timeless holy light of heaven!
A
mother
wears many
hats but it is
the love she wraps
around her children
that warms her and keeps them safe.
At times the coat is thin and full
of holes but with fabric still strong, she
loves with every fiber of her being.

This post is dedicated to my three lovely daughters. Being their mother is a joy and privilege. I pray that their lives, full of hope and expectation, will reflect light and warmth on future generations. We are all truly blessed.

stars, for heaven
is already here.
During the light of day,
be patient and forgiving.
When the dark of night approaches,
rejoice and give thanks to God for grace.
The dominion of heaven knows no bounds.
The
thought of
gathering
information
for taxes is so
depressing but it is
a necessary part of
civic responsibility.
I would rather do anything else
and starting the job is like pulling teeth.
I
often
dread starting
a job or task
but it is likely
anticipating it
that causes anxiety
and not the actual doing it.
I realize now if I thought less
and did more, I could finish much sooner.
