I walk…
with purposeful
intent contemplating
matters swirling around my mind.
Tension melts away with every step…
…one foot in front of the other
in a labyrinth of
serenity
…I walk.
Rain
slashing
the windshield
drowning out all
sound, its own rhythmic
refrain dominating
silence, reinforcing the
ultimate power of nature
to exert its control. There is no
shouting back, no winning… just surviving.
Years go
by quickly at
uncontrollable paces.
Yet living with arms wide open
and being able to share smiles and tears
without judging adds width and depth
to life, keeping one from
wondering where
years go.

Inspired by this quote from Evan Esar, an American humorist who lived from 1899-1995. “You can’t do anything about the length of your life, but you can do something about its width and depth.”
I hate
having nightmares,
waking me and leaving
me anxious, afraid to return
to sleep.
Instead,
I lie awake
worrying about things
that may never happen to me
at all.
A waste…
this precious time
gone, never returning.
Another night looming ahead
of dreams.
Creates.
On blank canvas
figures emerge in space.
Muscles, curves, angles added to
gestured lines reveal the human body.
Shading, value, and dimension
give substance to the form.
From nothing God
creates.
Low points.
Dullness sets in.
Our energy waning
like the moon, that in-between time
after reaching our fullest potential
and before we can feel renewed.
From the darker shadows
we emerge from
low points.
Believe.
See the presence
of the risen Lord through
eyes opened by the strength of faith.
Believe so you can see Him as He lives
among us in unexpected
ways. Greet Him on the road.
Be ready to
believe.
Sadness
filling the cracks
created by loss and
rubbing raw the nerves frayed by the
pain of suffering and the agony
of helplessness. No medicine
provides blessed relief.
Time only mends
sadness.
A day
with a dear friend
catching up on lost time
reliving moments when our lives
intersected and time was measured in
days apart rather than months…sad
knowing we will only
be together
a day.
Stories
of what we are…
who we will grow to be…
constructed within our own minds
…slowly revealed in chapters or verses
the mystery unfolding to
faithful listeners of
our creation
stories.
