Some
lessons
take a whole
lifetime to learn.
Like walking a maze,
some paths end abruptly.
The changes in direction
result in angst and confusion.
With much relief, the exit is found
but there’s no desire to retrace the steps.
My
brain knows
too easily
how to invent
things to worry and
fret about… a phone rings.
Or maybe it does not ring.
A crucial conversation looms.
A wise soul once said “do not worry
…unless you can do something about it.”

there is
a will, there
will be a way.
The direction is
not always straight forward
nor without frequent pitfalls.
But sometimes the mere strength of will,
combined with faith of course, is all that
is needed to overcome obstacles.
Life
is short.
Happiness
does not depend
on success or wealth,
but a higher purpose.
Our lives are borrowed from God.
The power of humility
is that all we possess is a gift.
With God, we can become all we might be.
Let
it be.
Accidents
happen sometimes
and damage control
means forgiving yourself.
Dwelling on it doesn’t help.
It is best to spend energy
moving forward rather than backward.
Reality is … it is what it is.
When
times are
difficult,
I remember
to be thankful for
all the blessings I have.
There are many people who,
although they possess little wealth,
know that they have all they need simply
by counting not possessions but blessings.
A
lovely
night of stars
outside and in.
Music created
by blending twelve voices
in heavenly harmonies
accompanied only by the
awe and gratitude of the many
blessed by the talents of these stars.

On Tuesday night, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Port Royal, VA sponsored a concert by The Thirteen, an elite ensemble of twelve professional singers led by conductor Matthew Robertson. The Thirteen is based in New York City and specializes in Baroque and Renaissance chamber music. This series … to St. Cecilia featured music by Britten, Tallis, Pasterina, Hassler, Marenzio and Wert for the patron saint of musicians. happens
when colors
are not as bright
and we have to use
our minds instead of eyes
to see the fall splendor of
God’s creation? Do not worry.
Those magnificent colors are stored
in our memories. Close your eyes and see.
A
crooked
path can be
the way that God
leads us through our lives.
Detours along the way
provide life experience
enriched with valuable insights
leading to a new destination
outside the realm of the narrow and straight.
We have become a nation divided
defining ourselves around issues
and unwilling to compromise.
It is not about winning
or losing that matters.
There is common ground
on which to stand.
Finding it
is the
key.
