Windows To The Spirit

A
new year…
a fresh start…
happiness that
last year is fading
in the rear-view mirror.
The road ahead is unknown,
full of potential challenges.
But I learned that trials make me strong
and that my Source of strength is limitless.

evening at home…
Gracie on my lap…
sipping a glass of wine…
soup simmering on the stove…
French jazz playing in the background…
If I can’t be with friends this evening,
what better way to close out the old year!

family
leaves, and the house
is quiet again,
I am melancholy.
Sounds of laughter and chatter
resonating throughout the halls
have been replaced by sounds of silence
until we are all together again.

Baby,
it’s cold out!
People scurry
to go inside, where
warmth and love await them
nourishing body and soul.
I worry about the people
who have no hearth home to give shelter
from the cold loneliness of winter’s chill.

I become nostalgic,
looking back over the year
and reflecting on its events.
It is a time of letting regrets
fade into renewed promises to change.

and only see
the sun and the stars.
But there is so much more
than what I see with my eyes.
The universe is limitless.
Yet I know the creator is God.
Some things I don’t need to see to believe.

bringing peace and
joy to the whole world.
For this day, voices ring
spreading good will to all and
drowning out the dissonant sounds
of those who choose to be disruptive.
This day Christ’s appearing will be made known.

baby Jesus?
Love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, wisdom,
faithfulness and gentleness,
all fruits of the Holy Spirit
already alive in each of us.
For it is in giving that we receive.

to wonder,
to let the mind’s
imagination
ponder questions too deep
for words to fully answer.
It will be enough to believe
that the birth and the coming again
of the Prince of Peace is a mystery.
