Wanderlust

Roads
beckon.
Seas and skies,
stretching out far
as the eye can see,
offer promises of
adventure, renewal, and
new memories of time and space
to replace tired scenes replayed often.
A case of wanderlust is hard to shake.

Longing for God’s Peace

I
long for
the stillness
of a blanket
of new fallen snow.
Harsh noises of the world
hushed by nature’s elegance.
Unable to hear any sound,
except my own breath, I love to walk
in the quiet solitude of God’s peace.

Growing Pains

I
wish that
I could solve
all the problems
of my beloveds
so that their lives were free
of any pain or sadness,
fear, heartache or disappointment.
Yet we raised them to be smart and strong.
Their struggles will only make them stronger.

Through the Looking Glass

Context
tells our stories.
It is the looking glass
through which life’s events are observed.
Without it, no rules or limits exist
to break our fall into chaos.
It adds depth, width and height.
We live inside
context.

Believe It or Not

Believe
in the future.
Though unpredictable
and indeterminate, beyond
the excitement of the undiscovered,
is revealed the sacred promise
of the ultimate truth
of salvation.
Believe.

Listening for God Alone

Make time
and meditate.
Listen for God alone.
Lay aside the things of the world.
As you wait for God to speak, ask for grace
to hear the words that inspire you
to live into your gifts.
Meditate and
make time.

Music to My Ears

The words
are instruments
which play my soul’s music
and capture the daily rhythm
of joys and sorrows, or inspirations
whispered lovingly in my ear
by the Holy Spirit.
And quiet, I hear
the words.

Time Passages

Old friends.
Shared memories
of happy times well spent.
Lazy afternoons at the pool,
talking for hours over a cup of tea,
crazy holiday shopping trips.
Distance separates us.
We have become
old friends.

The Cloud of Knowing

To know
what lies ahead,
the dangers and pitfalls,
the consequences of doing
justifies the downsides of not doing.
Grace and guidance, emanating
from the Holy Spirit
is all we need
to know.

In the Bleak Midwinter

The
greyness
of the day
dissolves into
the blackness of night.
The sunlight did little
to ameliorate the chill
that grew more bitter as night fell.
The bleakness of the winter matches
my mood, in unsettled hibernation.
