Love Letters in the Sands of Time

With
our deeds
of kindness
and acts of love,
we write love letters,
destined to survive long
after we have left this world.
Simple, sincere and eternal,
these epistles are scribed by true hearts
inspired by God’s love bestowed upon us.

Thanks to the Reverend Catherine Hicks of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Port Royal, Virginia for inspiring me, as always, with her sermon.   To read her sermon from Sunday morning, go to this link.  Catherine’s Sermon 3/11/18

An Enigma

There
are times
we cannot
understand what
God is telling us.
When a friend is stricken
by devastating illness,
we pray for comfort and healing
knowing that there is likely no cure.
Suffering is one way God speaks to us.

Lost and Found

Lose
yourself
in the flow,
channeling your
creativity.
Do not keep track of time.
Let yourself be in the zone.
A profound sense of peace awaits.
It’s a chance to escape from your life
and be invigorated and restored.

Beauty and the Beast

To
love one
another
invokes us to
truly love ourselves.
Not in vain, boastful ways
but allowing light in through
ugly broken cracks in our lives,
fueling the warmth of our own beauty.
We can then truly love one another.

The View from the Top

I
wander
forty days,
with intention,
in the wilderness
hoping to find release
from the sins that weigh me down.
But the path is often obscured.
Although the journey is difficult,
healing awaits me at the mountain’s top.

Perfection Reflection

I
strive to
be perfect
in all I do
but there is a cost.
Body and mind are stressed.
Creativity suffers.
Worry and angst creep into cracks
caused by fear of failure and left raw.
Forgiveness is the cure for perfection.

The Wellspring of Love

God
loves us
and wants us
to be happy,
happiness that comes
not from wealth and comfort
but in loving communion
with the earth and humanity.
We live by God’s grace so that in death
we are born into an eternal life.

The Inconvenience Truth

I
don’t know
how to live
daily without
electricity.
At the flick of a switch
I have light, heat, and water.
Convenience is an addiction,
being without a stark reminder
to humbly appreciate having it.

March Madness

Wind
rushing
through the leaves
rough and rugged
ripping off shingles
toppling trees that once stood
tall and strong but now bowing
in submission to the fierce blow
of a nor’easter passing through town
leaving death and destruction in its wake.

My Favorite Cup

Shattered.
Here one minute
yet with one careless brush
of a hand in needless hurry
crashed to the floor without forgiveness,
in fragments now, beyond repair.
But its sweet memory
in time was not
shattered.
