Windows To The Spirit

It
is hard
for me to
give up control.
To let others do
while I stand on the side.
I am uncomfortable.
I struggle with my own ego.
To everything there is a season.
My work is not done, it is just changing.

I
have lots
on my mind
as I wake up.
Thoughts racing around
like cars on a speedway
with no clear destination.
Engine revving and wheels spinning
It’s time to get up and get moving.
Setting the right pace will be important.

God
gives us
family
to celebrate
not just special times
but every day we have.
The love and support we share
makes all things in life bearable,
instills a sense of belonging, and
creates a bond that cannot be broken.

There
is no
such thing as
being care free.
Worries and concerns
are a reality.
Carefree is a state of mind.
It’s easy to be overwhelmed.
It’s hard work to turn off doubts and fears.
Mind over matters brings much needed peace.

The
perfect
father is
an enigma.
Full of strength and grace.
Smart but able to learn.
Stern yet movable to tears.
Brave and still cautious when needed.
Growing in wisdom but young at heart.
Accepting and giving love and support.

When
I am
confronted
and surprised by
unexpected news,
I need time to process.
My first instinct is panic.
But then clarity kicks in and
what I must do begins to take shape.
I pray for strength to face what I can’t change.

A
simple
vacation.
Escape the stress,
pressures and demands
that have become routine.
Stay up late and then sleep in.
Treat yourself to coffee, doughnuts,
and take a long, slow walk through the park.
Then return to life, refreshed and renewed.

Grace
happens
in the midst
of traveling.
A chance encounter
far away from home brings
a sense of shared comradery.
Road warriors trade sympathies
of the wear and tear on the body
and upon parting, share travel mercies.

The
dreaded
to do list.
It never ends!
Just once I would like
to finish everything
with time to sit back, relax,
and have nothing left to check off.
There nothing wrong with making the list
… it’s the obsession to get to the end.
