Life
can be
abundant,
overflowing
with joy, compassion,
and justice, bestowing
deeply felt satisfaction.
Jesus showed us the way through love.
This abundance is a gift to all
who love God and spread it abundantly.
There
are times
when my heart
needs to widen
to be inclusive
of someone or something
yearning for an opening
to a relationship with God.
I can be the portal through which they
glimpse the grace and mercy of the Divine.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.
A clear end to the frenzied running.
Until it is time to exhale
enjoy the small successes
celebrate the good news
take time to relax
keep the focus
remember
stay calm
breathe.
There
is a
heaviness,
a feeling of
utter exhaustion
that moves in and settles
in my bones, weighing me down.
I need rest beyond what sleep brings.
I will never get everything done.
At some point, good enough will have to do.
As
I move
through my day
getting things done
I pray as I go.
Each movement a prayer
like strokes of an artist’s brush
dancing with the Holy Spirit
across the canvas of creation.
Joy is the reward of a job done well.
To
make a
commitment
to a practice
demands intention.
I get so distracted
by my lengthy to-do list
that never gets any shorter.
Perhaps I need to forgive myself.
A practice does not have to be perfect.
Lent
calls me
to put down
my busy life
and listen for God’s
voice calling in the wind,
in daily conversation
with friends, family, and strangers,
in the sounds of my own heart beating.
To listen with the heart and not the head.
True
treasure
is not of
this earthly place.
An unquenchable
thirst for necessities
feeds the body, not the soul.
There is a heavenly world where
righteousness and peace show their faces
to those searching for treasures of the heart.
Lent.
Instead
of sack cloth
and black ashes
I will seek to wrap
myself in the fabric
of God’s eternal presence
weaving grace and humility
into all of my relationships
so that I may be a living embrace.
Home
sweet home.
Traveling
is so much fun.
Seeing new places,
escaping the demands
of ordinary living.
At the same time, routine is nice.
The safe comforts of the familiar
graciously greet me and welcome me home.
