Day
by day
my body
ages and shows
the weight of the years
yet my inner nature
grows stronger and is renewed.
My life is a journey of faith.
What can be seen is temporary
but what cannot be seen is eternal.
Inspired by the scripture found in Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians 4:16-18.
How
does God
speak to us?
Will we know it?
God’s language is love.
Listen for love calling
deep unto deep, for you hear
the voice in the depths of your heart.
Like the shepherd whose sheep know his voice
fear not and follow, for God is speaking.
We
plant roots
of faith by
reading scripture
but our branches reach
out into creation
where we must seek and provide
spiritual food and nourishment.
We must respond with the words of God
heard through the language of today’s culture.
Wave
gently,
smile warmly,
and say thank you.
It’s good etiquette
to acknowledge kindness
done by a friend or stranger
which in turn makes them feel special.
Good manners never go out of style.
Be lavish with gratitude, it’s timeless.
The
common
threads of our
humanity,
illuminated
by our differences,
weave a lovely tapestry
visible to all who love God.
The fabric of our being made strong
by accepting each other’s holiness.
When
I wait
my worry
spreads like wildfire
consuming my mind
and scorching my patience.
Waiting is not my strong suit.
Linear time is a flash point.
There is a healing balm in God’s time.
It is not in knowing but believing.
A
day off.
A respite
from the demands
of the to do list.
We all need sabbath time.
It restores my energy
to face the changing days ahead.
Even though filled with uncertainty
my faith is renewed in what is to be.
Just
before
waking up,
dreams fade away
and my brain begins
to kick into high gear
ticking off the to-do list
in an effort to make me move.
Slow to respond, I stretch my body
and breathe deeply, re-centering my mind.
Cold
one day
warm the next
it must be spring!
It’s time to wake up
from a long winter’s nap.
The cherry tree’s pink blossoms
have exploded in great splendor
soon to be blown away in the wind
its fleeting beauty a hallmark of spring.
In
plain sight
life goes on.
Every moment
miracles happen!
But there is also pain,
unnoticed and forgotten.
Do I not want to see the hurt
or am I only looking inward?
Lord, open my eyes so that I may see.
