I
cannot
presume to
ken the deepness
of pain suffered by
those whose experience
I don’t fully understand.
Their pain emanates from darkness
searching for love, compassion and grace.
Pain, which has a voice needing to be heard.
If
one holds
too tightly
to resentment,
opportunities
for forgiveness narrow.
The path forward seems hopeless.
Stand your ground, but lean in, open
the heart to a wider perspective.
The past may not change but the future will.
How
I care
for myself
allows me to
show love to others.
If I cannot see past
anger, hate, and division
in my own heart, there is no way
I can act with grace and compassion.
I must be this change I wish for the world.
No,
I can’t!
Yes, I can!
New endeavors
are unknown journeys
with a new horizon,
a limitation of sight
but not of capabilities.
Not succeeding is not the failure.
It is the self-doubt and the fear to try.
If
I could
take away
all hurt endured
by those in my path,
I would gladly do it.
An empath dwells within me
and I struggle with suffering.
So I pray for God’s grace and mercy
to wrap loving arms around those in pain.
Ease
is hard.
Mind races
to make long lists
of things to be done.
Nervous energy flows,
creating superhighways
clogged with stress and anxiety.
It is so hard to be and not do.
The secret is to be intentional.
Spring
begins
as if an
artist painted
red buds of new growth
on bare trees and sprinkled
dots of yellow and bright green
across fallow, barren landscapes.
Lent is also a growing season,
creating new things inside and outside.
Turn
darkness
into light.
Stoke the embers
of dying passions.
Uncover talents pushed
behind curtains of neglect.
Dust off the thrill of adventure
by beginning something new and fresh.
Growth happens when light shines on the inside.
God’s
work is
obvious
whenever I
help out a stranger,
show love to a neighbor,
or pray for a friend in need.
One day God may call me to do
something totally unexpected.
I believe so that I may be ready.
